Wake Boarding

I went wake boarding for the first time the other day! It was pretty much one of the more frustrating things I’ve done in my life. Every time you don’t succeed, you’re lying in the water, basting in your failed attempts, waiting for the boat to circle back around just to rip your arms out of your sockets once again. After about the 5th time of my botched attempts, I decided that this was my time. I would stand on that board and no water could stop me. I would rise victoriously among the water as my board scraped its face, making it wish it had never messed with Joshua Thomas Rickett. I fell again. Everything I had thought flew out the window. So I just decided that some time that day I would succeed.
After settling and just relaxing, the boat took off and I stood up so naturally and felt the joy and ecstasy stepping onto liquid. After a few seconds of being on the surface of the water, being tossed from side to side by the wakes, I realized that I didn’t want to wake board! The next time we went, I discovered that it was the boat that I was being dragged by that gave me that feeling.
I’ve gone 3 times now, fruitfully standing, carving and hitting a few wakes to get a few feet in the air. Needless to say, I’ve also hit the water like an apple thrown down the side of the empire state building by Sir Isaac Newton. But I hear that what ever doesn’t kill me, makes me stronger. I don’t believe this statement 3 times out of 10.
